The Flame Ignites - updated 06/08/2013 at 05:11PM EST
Keeping The Flame Alive Tournament is arguably the best Olympic bow (recurve) tournament on the Australian Archery calendar and yesterdays event was evidence to this as some of Australia’s top archers went up against Team USA coached by Kisik Lee who was the same coach who led Simon Fairweather to Australia’s first Olympic Archery medal on the same field in the year 2000. Sydney Olympic Park Archers put on an event that was up there with the best in the world with live scoring information (AIMS) along with a camera projecting live images of archers and arrow hits on the big screen. WAA was proud to be involved in this event which has raised the bar for Australian run archery events. The men’s competition developed into a very close tussle between Australia and the USA with Australia’s Mat Gray in the final against Sean Mclaughlin (USA) and the finish coming down to a one arrow shoot off with Sean taking out the winners cheque of $1,000. The women’s event was taken out by Mackenzie Brown (USA) who showed superior form throughout the day. WAA thanks Sydney Olympic Park Archers for the fantastic effort that went into making this day such a success. We also wish to thank Team USA and coach Kisik Lee for supporting this event and we look forward to welcoming the team back to Sydney in the near future.
